AD/PD™ is committed to supporting sustainability across all aspects of our conference, and this year we are pleased to partner with Bella Center Copenhagen, a venue recognized for its Responsible Hospitality strategy. Since 2016, Bella Center has significantly reduced its carbon footprint, cutting energy use by more than 40% through efficiency measures and renewable energy. Today, approximately 30% of the venue’s energy is generated by its roof-integrated solar panel park. After the event, Bella Center will also produce an Event Climate Report, analyzing emissions from energy and water use, waste, purchased goods, and food and beverage consumption.
Copenhagen further enhances our sustainability goals through its excellent public transportation system and pedestrian- and bike-friendly infrastructure. The venue is easily accessible from both the airport and city centre via metro, trains, or buses, and participants can benefit from reduced public transport tickets, helping lower reliance on taxis or shuttles and reducing CO₂ emissions.
In line with our venue, we at AD/PD™ 2026 aim to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) throughout our value chain. We support and work toward the following SDGs:
GOAL 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
To support this goal, we will:
- We aim to limit the offering of sugary drinks and alcohol.
- Provide attendees with healthy and nutritious food options, which include fresh and locally sourced fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and more.
- Use reusable dishware, compostable materials, and avoid single-use plastics.
- Promote walking to the venue and at the destination.
- Encourage train travel as an alternative to flying.
GOAL 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all
Supporting accessible, high-quality education for our community is our top priority. Throughout the organization of AD/PD™ 2025, we strive to constantly improve the scientific program, introduce more accessible Conference alternatives and support onsite attendance, eliminate gender disparities in education, and ensure long-term education for our attendees.
To support this goal, we will:
- Extend invitations to numerous internationally renowned experts to present special keynote lectures.
- Include workshops and panel discussions for early career professionals.
- Provide on-demand sessions by making recorded sessions available after the conference dates.
- Organize interactive meet-the-expert sessions with audience participation (like voting) and relevant presentations.
- Arrange opportunities for networking and knowledge exchange through various platforms, such as social media, online communities, and post-event resource sharing.
- Organize a hybrid version of the conference with a more accessible virtual alternative, ensuring that everyone can participate at lower rates, regardless of their location around the world.
GOAL 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
AD/PD™ is an inclusive space for people of all ages, genders, and abilities. We aim for and monitor gender equality and nondiscrimination among our delegates, presenters, and committee members.
To support this goal, we will:
- Promote the Conference in a gender-inclusive way using a language that is welcoming to all.
- Make the meeting a welcoming, inclusive space for people of all ages, genders, and abilities.
- Choose a diverse speaker lineup representing a variety of genders, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
- Promote more women in committee positions related to the event.
- Create a program that features diverse topics and speakers from various backgrounds and experiences.
- Make sure the Conference and exhibition are accessible for attendees with disabilities.
- Make sure that there are various food options for attendees with different dietary restrictions.
Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Bella Center Copenhagen has significantly reduced its energy consumption through efficiency measures and the integration of renewable energy. Approximately 30% of the venue’s total energy use is generated by its roof-integrated solar panel park, supporting a modern and sustainable energy infrastructure.
Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
This year:
- Our Conference venue emphasizes responsible resource management, including waste reduction, efficient use of energy and water, and sustainable practices integrated throughout its operations.
- We limit printed promotional materials in favor of digital alternatives.
- We encourage all of our exhibitors to participate in the initiative by reducing single-use giveaways at their booths.
- We will collect and recycle attendees’ badges and lanyards at the end of the Conference.
